Kitchen Production Assistant

We are expanding our team to hire a kitchen production assistant.

This position is open for someone who has a minimum of 6 months kitchen experience. They will be providing support primarily to the kitchen in the areas of prep, and product assembly, learning our smoker program and food tracking program, packaging and learning and implementing food safety paperwork. Our goal for this position is that the employee will grow with this position; starting with a basic kitchen foundation and growing as a leader as these areas of our business expand.

Candidates will bring the following to the team;

    • FIFO,

    • time vs production management,

    • working efficiently and cleanly

    • Food safety principals

  • The ability to read and write English. The ability to follow written direction. The ability to fill out official paperwork. This is a food production facility. Food safety standards are higher and more complex then in restaurant environments.

  • The ability to stand and work for 8-10 hours per day, the ability to lift 50+ lbs

  • The ability to work as a team and also independently.

  • The ability to hold a knife and basic knife skills with the desire to improve knife skills

 

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 6 months experience. Pay will depend on experience and the candidates ABILITY TO DEMONSTRATE THEIR MATURE AND PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE.

  • Minimum high school education with the ability to read and write English and the ability to follow and fill out paperwork.

About this role

Our kitchen supports the butchery department helping us process all the extra “stuff” that comes with butchery. It makes lard and stock, mixes sausage spices and makes marinades as well as making and assembling our value added items. It makes the holiday pies and take home meals. The kitchen prepares the cures and brines as well as our weekly Friday sandwich. Slicing and packaging deli meats and applying our food safety and labelling program with attention to detail.

In our kitchen there is a lot of prep; sausage rolls and welly bites, stuffed jalapenos and hand pressing burger patties. Slicing, squeezing and seasoning the sauerkraut as well as learning about the smoker and processing deli.

You will learn the foundation to HACCP, our food safety program and foundations to batch tracking. Paperwork is a crucial part of our kitchen and keeping in our food safety compliance.

No areas of our business cut corners, we avoid nitrates and preservatives which means doing things more often to maintain freshness.

Cleaning and dish washing will be part of this job. You will be responsible for tidying your area at the end of the night.

On Saturdays this is a customer service role; working and servicing the counter, talking to clients and cleaning up at the end of the day. Working at the farmer’s market.

Although this role is different than most kitchen roles there are trade-offs; you have a set day shift from Tuesday to Saturday, no evenings and every Sunday and Monday off. There is no line to work a minimal lunch rush (Fridays only).

We are offering

  • The pay level for this role is $16.50 - $18.00 hourly (sorry we don’t collect tips) a candidate must demonstrate a MATURE AND RESPONSIBLE ATTITUDE for consideration of a higher rate.
