Farm Market Lead

Job Overview

As a Leader at our Farm Market Meat Counter, you will be

responsible for ensuring high-quality cuts of meat are handled and packaged for

our customers while adhering to food safety standards. Your expertise will

contribute to delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining the highest

quality in our products. The ideal candidate will have experience in the food industry, particularly in customer service.

As the lead you are responsible for setting up the case, selling the meat, and packaging the meat at the end of the day. You are also responsible for supervising the cash helper, and helping dissolve any issues that may arise.

 

Responsibilities

  • Follow all Food Handler Safety Guidelines at all times.

  • Comply with company meat standards and food safety regulations; including filling out temperature logs

  • Setting up the display case, rotating of product inside the case so customers can

       see the meat offerings.

  • Ensuring other stall displays are set up, including soap, deli, sausage rolls as it applies

  • Assist customers with their inquiries regarding meat products, providing

       knowledgeable recommendations; or finding out the answers to questions if they are not known

  • Wrapping product to sell to customer, in butcher paper and labeling them appropriately

  • Providing positive customer service

  • Keep your meat department area clean, well-stocked and organized; including a weekly inventory reporting to the shop

  • Wrap all unsold meat in paper and put in cooler for pick-up.

  • Contribute to a safe, positive and fun environment

  • Being a good neighbour and market community member, by adhering to market community standards and requests as they arise.

  • Working with market staff in a professional, practical manner

  • Taking detailed orders for clients and communicating them to the shop

  • Taking cash when cash helper is on break.

  • Provide a small amount of case training to cash helper so that they can cover your break.

  • Ensuring all products in the case are labelled properly with appropriate tags

  • Taking photos of the display case at the beginning of the shift and communicating regularly with the shop about daily events.

  • Overseeing cash box, redeeming market bucks and other coupon tickets, overseeing cash payouts for staff.

Job Requirements

  • The ability to stand for 6 hours and the ability to lift to 50 pounds.

  • Knowledge of food safety practices and proper food handling

  • Comfortable working around and touching (with gloves), beef, pork, lamb and poultry.

  • Interest in cooking is an asset

  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate with customers in a friendly and helpful manner

  • Previous experience in the food industry is an asset, (meat cutting or butchering bonus points).

  • Time management; being able to manage set up time to be open for 8 am and tear down in an effective each week within market time frames. Markets expect us to be set up for opening time (8 am) and closed and packed up within a specific time frame for each market.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to

       detail. You will have a line up of people in front of you at times and you need to work efficiently           under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.

  • Willingness to learn.

  • Basic addition and subtraction skills. The ability to take cash and make change.

  • Must be willing to take a Food Handler’s Safety Course (Vessel Meats will

       pay for this online course). Will need access to computer for 6+ hours to do so. This will be paid.

 

Core Capabilities

  • Be able to communicate in English, reading, writing and verbal communication

  • Reading price lists and transposing that information onto a secondary sheet. Comparing price lists to price tags and making adjustments.

  • Physically capable of standing for the duration of the 6-7 hour shift

  • The ability to bend over and repeatedly reach at waist height

  • The ability to lift trays that weigh 2-8 lbs.

  • The ability to lift 50 lbs from floor height.

  • The ability to carry and walk carrying 30 lbs

  • The ability to do repetitive wrist movements like wrapping using butcher paper, pulling tape rolls and using markers.

  • Comfortable leading another team member.

  • The ability to complete a 6 hour online course, including taking small tests, and uploading a photo id to confirm identification. (Food safety requirements).

 

This position pays $20 per hour

This position is available in Halifax.
